About the Webinar
Compassion-based education puts care, empathy and the whole person at the centre of how future clinicians learn. This webinar presents systems medicine as a paradigm for medical education. Systems medicine looks at how biological, psychological, social and healthcare-system factors interact to shape health and illness. The session explains how this approach goes beyond the traditional biopsychosocial model. Participants will learn practical, compassion-based teaching strategies that build both sound clinical reasoning and person-centred care.
Learning Objectives
- Explain the principles of compassion-based education and systems medicine, and distinguish systems medicine from the biopsychosocial model.
- Analyse a clinical case by identifying relevant biological, psychological, social and healthcare-system factors and their possible interactions.
- Apply compassion-based educational strategies, including case-based learning, reflective practice, simulation and interprofessional learning.
- Design one practical teaching activity and an assessment approach that evaluates both clinical reasoning and compassionate, person-centred care.
