About the Workshop
In situ simulation brings realistic clinical training directly into the healthcare environment where patient care takes place. This workshop explores how to plan and implement simulation-based activities within clinical settings to strengthen teamwork, identify hidden safety risks, and uncover gaps in clinical performance. Participants will learn practical strategies for integrating in situ simulation into everyday healthcare practice to improve team readiness, patient safety, and the quality of care.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the defining features of in situ simulation and how it differs from centre-based simulation.
- Describe the key steps in planning and implementing an in situ simulation in a clinical environment (stakeholder engagement, logistics, and safety considerations).
- Apply in situ simulation principles to identify latent safety threats and team performance gaps in their own clinical setting.
